Thought it might be useful to give a report on our short notice, 2 week holiday.
Sunny beach would not have been where we would have picked but the holiday was really cheap. If you like Blackpool you will like sunny beach.
What it did do is make us use buses and excursions which are brill.
Places visited were - Istambul - a must
Picturesque Bulgaria, which takes you around villages and visits places including a mountain ski lift ride - another must.
On the bus we went to:
Nessebar - Lovely and worth a visit
Burgas - a dump of a city
St Vlas - Wonderful village
Sozipol - another wonderful place.
We took £300 with us in local currency and came back with some money - not a lot! (dont forget we were there for 2 weeks!!)
Excursions were paid on the credit card but we only stayed b%26amp;b
We stayed at Polyusi hotel which was very nice - we didnt use the pools but did find people complaining about the brits putting dont there towels on the sunbeds - a lesson learned I believe from the Germans - shame on us!!!
We never spent more than 25 levs for a meal for 2 including beer.
Dont buy imported beer - you can get that at home for the same price or less.
Theft - never saw any but did talk to locals and they said the problem is gypsy%26#39;s - apparantly the children are taught to pick pocket - I just used a bumbag and never had problems.
Things to watch out for:
Prostitution - lots of it late at night - you will be approached, even if your wife and kids are with you!!(in sunny beach)
Dont take fruit offered by people offering cherrys or anything - you will be ripped off.
Watch for money changers on the street - one girl found she had a 5 lev note on top and bottom and the rest blanks.
In Istambul its the same - one bus passenger had got a brilliant looking fordged 10 Lire note out of an ATM!!! (she only knew it was false when turning it over, it was miss-alighned.
Mobile phones - we had a problem in not being able to do outgoing calls, we found the way around this is to turn off auto search and do a manual search then select Mtel and turn auto search on and it will now work - this is for vodafone pay as you go only applies to Bulgaria - Istanbul no problem.
Cant think of anything else.
Would we go again?
Yes but would go Rural if we could.

hi cumbrianradioham i am going to the polyusi in sept just want to ask a few questions about hotel were staff friendly .what were the rooms like. were they clean how was hotel in general any entertainment sorry to go on but would appreciate to here from someone who has stayed there what bars were in the area where did you eat and drink were you eating out every night i think its brilliant that you only spent 300 excluding your excursions lastley was the pool clean and suitable for an 8 year old non swimmer any info greatly appreciated kate

Polyusi was fine, rooms clean, pools cleaned every day and suitable for anyone.
no problems.
Food, we only stayed for bed and breakfast and breakfast was ok, nothing special.
We ate out all the time, go down the back road, the one that runs parallel to the front, out of the main doors or through the main gardens - not sure of the name of the road but it has overhead traffic lights on and there are numerous bars and eating places, our next door friends nicknamed it 10 lev road.
Adamo%26#39;s (not adam and eve%26#39;s) is nice for a real bulgarian meal.
The hotel food is more expensive as is the beer.
Take time out to explore other areas other than sunny beach.
Its horses for courses really - I was told to go to djani%26#39;s but not that impressed with the food.
You wont be sorry going to polyusi but I have heard of one person who went there and disliked the room - she complained and got a better room.
There are so many apartments being built that the hotels cant afford to give bad service, so do complain if you are not happy as the locals want to please.

forgot to mention - entertainment very repetative - just go out and enjoy the good entertainment elsewhere.

Hi - cumbrianradioham. Glad you had a nice holiday. I%26#39;m going to the Polyusi later this week - my fourth time. Do they still have that couple who sing the same songs in the same order night after night? I thought it was a CD at first :) Is Nicholas still running the pool bar with his wife and daughter? Can%26#39;t wait to get back!
|||
same singers same songs - hence we didnt drink in the pool bar, we only came back on an evening so dont know the names of bar staff. Came back for a rest and then when the singers started went for a meal.
Have a good holiday

yes - they had that kind of effect on me too :)
