looking at Bulgaria for a holiday - help needed!!

I am thinking about Bulgaria for a holiday, someone told me its a little like Turkey was 10 years ago, is this true?

Any reccomendations for destinations, we like a beach and stunning scenery and we don%26#39;t like big built up areas like the costa,s, old style and quaint with good restaurants and quiet bars, we are not party animals%26#39;

Also anyone tell us what the currency is and what you are likely to get for your pound, ie how much would a decent meal for two cost with a couple of drinks, cost of soft drinks, snacks etc

and best mode of transport.

Any other tips would be most appreciated.

thanks and God bless

Sounds like you may be suited to St.Vlas which is about 4 miles from Sunny Beach. Just really taking off with new apartments and marina built.

Quaint, quiet and no noisy youngsters.

Info on the village here.

The currency for Bulgaria is the lev( currently in resort 2.43 to the £ )

Local bus runs to Nessebar which is a world heritage site and a good day out.

Saw some info today from someone just back who paid on average 70/80 lev per night between 2 adults and this included drinks.

Jay, you will find the season only starts in the beach resorts in May and I wouldn%26#39;t be going after mid September, althoug has been known to be still very warm early October. ( resorts close down at this time )

May, early June , low to high 20%26#39;s, late June , july, August could go up to mid 30%26#39;s or even higher, sept can be mid to high 20%26#39;s but it will be much cooler in the evening. You will get the odd spectacular thunderstorm, especially Sept. We have always gone 1st 2 weeks in sept and always came back with a tan.

G%26#39;day Jay

I%26#39;m currently in Bulgaria thou not on the coast.

The lev is worth virtually 50 euro cents %26amp; is pegged to the Euro, so if the Euro rises so does the Lev.

I ate out yesterday %26amp; it cost me 5 euro for a nice salad lunch, Bulgarian flat garlic bread, traditional yoghurt drink %26amp; a bit of chicken, I couldn%26#39;t eat it all.

Some beaches are really crowded %26amp; food %26amp; drink costs more, if you have a car you could get to some nice empty beaches. Car hire can be as little as 13 euro / day.(they drive like nutters) Petrol is about 1.20 Euro / litre.

Trains are slow %26amp; cheap, coaches are quick cheap %26amp; nice.

Rodophe mountains are great but you need a car I reckon, Lake Batak is a beautiful area %26amp; you can camp anywhere you like, very safe %26amp; cheap! Last summer in July it was Roasting hot, 40C %26amp; very dry, I hid in the mountains.

Right now in Central Bulgaria it%26#39;s hot, about 30C.

It%26#39;s a fun place with nice ppl in my opinion.

Hope this helps.
