taxis in sofia

actually the most reliable company is OK taxis and Yellow cabs. the always use the taximeter and in general they are not trying to rip you off. Yet verify that the person%26#39;s photo on the licence is the same with the person driving. If not probably you are in a pirate OK taxi, and the above will not stand. Been there March 22 to March 25 and i%26#39;ve had two experiences of that kind. Of course it%26#39;s almost impossible to identify a real OK cab from a pirate one, especially at night and with heavy rain as in my case. But don%26#39;t worry they will try to steal from you some petty change like 2 or 3 lv, so in order to avoid quarrel may be it%26#39;s better not to protest. Of course I protested but I am a man of 1.90 m height and of 90 kilos of weight while the cab driver was literally half my size, and he didn dare to challenge me. Had it been the opposite i d probably woould have paid without a word.

:))) that was really cute- shall I claim for being %26quot;handicapped%26quot; due to my 160%26#39;s (cm)?- 99% of taxi drivers overweighting%26amp;overheigthing me. And I assure you only extreme circumstances (not related to one%26#39;s height/weight) could make me pay over, if I don%26#39;t want this. In any country.

BTW, you were lucky for being overcharged with only 2-3 BGN (1-1,5 Euro). At the time when Sofia was stuck by snow in 2008, with batteries of cell phones off, huge luggage, hard snow to cross so as to reach the main road where taxis pass by, and having only 1 cab around, I was asked in advance for crazy amount and -due to the circumstances- the best negotiated price was anyway about 15BGN (7,5Euro) above the regular one. It was a force major for me so I was OK with this price. But when I%26#39;m pressed to take scam taxi under regular circumstances, I only pay the regular price despite of what the driver claims for (and how big he/she is).

Now seriously.

RE. YELLOW. As one could be mislead by the %26quot;Yellow%26quot; ... All the taxis in Bulgaria, independent on the copmany, are painted in yellow. I think this clarification is needed while yellow is not the color of cabs in any country.

The above post probably refers to a Sofia taxi company named %26quot;Yellow taxi%26quot;. I can also add %26quot;Rikar%26quot; taxi to %26quot;OK Superstrans%26quot;%26amp;%26quot;Yellow taxi%26quot;; however there are many other legal companies. I only cite those which I used.

ADD-ON

It might happen that driver from regular company tries to overprice (not a frequent issue but possible anyway). If so happens, you shall not pay anything than what is indicated at the counter display.

Telephone number for complaints is posted at the front board in the car.

At trip start, ensure that the counter is operable and switched on. Otherwise do not use this car- even if it is legal, working without counter switched on is illegal.

Also check prior starting engine that the counter indicates a figure equal to the figure cited as %26quot;initial price%26quot;/%26quot;price for call%26quot;

Prices breakdown is posted in both English and Bulgarian on: (1) interior- on the board in front of passenger%26#39;s front seat; (2) exterior- on the right side (passenger%26#39;s side) of the front window; (3) exterior- on the right car side window.

Prices shall include: initial price, drive price = BGN per km, price per stay = BGN per minute.

You can always call OK Taxi directly and order a taxi. Then you%26#39;re guaranteed it%26#39;s an authentic OK taxi. That%26#39;s what I always do. They usually have an english-speaking dispatcher available if you don%26#39;t speak Bulgarian. You tell them where you%26#39;re located and where you want to go. If you%26#39;re in downtown Sofia, then they%26#39;re usually very fast, depending on traffic. Alot of times, they%26#39;re there within 4-7 minutes.

The number is 973-2121. You may have to dial 02 first for the city code.
