Romance Hotel, St. Konstantine, near Varna

Pondering staying at the exotically named %26#39;Romance Hotel%26#39;, St Konstantine near Varna. It claims four stars.

Is St Konstantine a nice quiet place for walking, spa and beach. Or do the photos flatter to deceive. Thanks for any info.

|||

Actually staying at this hotel now ! It is really nice , room are very large and furnished with nice stuff .Staff are very friendly and no where smells of smoke .

The food is nice but not 4 star , tuna salad was tinned tuna , that sort of thing .But its a great price including room service and mini bar .

Out side the hotel is a bit run down , i thought it would be prestinne , gearing up for the summer , but no its more like a frontier town.

The beach is like 70s Benidorm .I took some pictures I%26#39;ll post them.

The hotel is great but St Konstatine is not what I thought is would be .

|||

Many thanks. Pity I have already booked will have to use it as a base for travelling around the area.

|||

Hi Inverkip,

Can you also tell what the local buses are like and does the hotel organise tourist trips.

|||

The hotel was great , I would say 4 star for sure , they also have appartments which are great value with a full kitchen and large lounge diner , one bedroom 55 euro two bedroom 75 euro .

Yes the staff where great I am sure they have literature about trips .( the woods are supposed to be amazing full of wildlife , including wolf !, I think shooting expiditions are done in this area!, ) If not you can walk out past the the pool there is a gate on the right , and you are 20 meters from a couple of supermarkets , lots of stalls selling everything from clothes to strawberries( by the way none of the stall holders are aggressive hard sellers or the open air restaurants ) , they have some venders selling trips for sight seeing and a bus stop to venture off independently . The string of stalls lead to the beach , where you pay to rent a brolly and a lounger , one beach bar after the other selling food a drink .The place was empty when we were there but they said the season would start in two weeks.

The hot spring on the beach is a site to behold , the water pours out what looks like an old drainage pipe , but that rock pool area was very popular , with russian and bulgarian tourists .

We are back in Sofia now , and lots of people say you don%26#39;t have to walk far down the beach for it too become quite lovely .I am sure that once you explore there are hidden gems .Most of trees are deciduous which are stunning .

|||

Hi I posted the pictures to my review of the romance hotel, if you want to see them.

|||

Many thanks for the excellent info. Where can I locate the photos. Directions please.

Want to book holiday to Bulgaria...wheres best?

Hi.

We usualy holiday in Turkey, but have decided we want to try Bulgaria for out summer 2007 holiday. We have never been to Bulgaria before and our local airport/company fly to both Bourgas and Varna, so either area would be ok to travel to.

Basically we are wanting to know wheres the best resort? We like somewhere decent in size, so we can have a good walk about, plenty of shops to look around, nice bars that allow children (we have a 3 year old son) and a decent beach.

I thought Sunny Beach looked nice, is it??

Any advice would be great as we truly are 1st timers to bulgaria, and have heard all sorts of mixed reports, good and bad, so just want really to know is it nice, wheres nice, and is it expensive to eat/drink whilst there?

Looking at booking with balkan Holidays, are they any good?

Thanks to you all in advance!

Lisa.

Hi Lisa,

I consider Zlatni Piassatzi (Golden sands) better than Sunny Beach. Also Albena and Dyuni are extremely beautiful and well organized resorts. I live in the US and I used Felix Travel for my trip to Bulgaria. They were very helpful, gave me detailed information and knew everything what I needed. I recommend this agency. www.felixtravel.net

The beach strip is covered with fine golden sand. Some hotels are far from the sea and you have to ask the agent when you choose the hotel.

Hope this helped.

Bulgaria is very good - have stayed in both Sunny Beach and Golden Sands resorts and would recommend Golden Sands, especially if you have a young child as it is less busy and not so noisy at night. Lots of family friendly restaurants and bars, beautiful beach, plenty shops.

Usually book my own flights as Balkan prices can be a bit steep. Suggest you book minimum 3* accommodation, higher if possible. This year booked through holidayhotels.com and got a really good price at 4* Hotel Yavor - ended up in an apartment with lounge, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms even though I had only booked a 1 bed apartment! Food was good here and the rooms had been recently refurbished and were really nice. Take a taxi from airport, much cheaper and quicker than transfers by coach.

As resort is quite hilly I suggest you try and book accomm on 1st or 2nd streets from the beach. You can walk right from one end of the resort to the other along the front street which is pedestrianised, without the risk of being ploughed down by golf karts which they rent out in Sunny beach and are driven recklessly throughout the resort by teenagers thinking they are in a formula one car!! Thankfully Golden Sands don%26#39;t have these.

Lots of watersports and a brilliant waterpark, plenty to do and still cheap - hope this helps!!

|||

Thanks for all the info. To be honest, since posting my original post, I was thinking Golden Sands looked better!

Will have a good look at that resort now. Thank you.

Lisa.

|||

Hi Lisa

We too are frequent visitors to Turkey, but tried Bulgaria end of May/June 2007. We went to Nessebur, a lovely place. If you stay in new Nessebur in a hotel on the sea front, you will have the best of both worlds - the lovely beach, and a 10/15 minute walk into Old Nessebur, where there are lots of shops. Most of the restaurants in Old Nessebur overlook the beautiful harbour, and are exceptionally cheap (far cheaper than Turkey nowadays). However there isn%26#39;t any nightlife, you have to go into Sunny Beach for that. Sunny Beach isn%26#39;t too far away, but we personally hated it - it is rowdy, and more suitable for teenagers.

However, Balkan are another matter! We arrived in Bulgaria in fog and was taken to Varna airport instead of Bourgas and left there for 5 hours in the middle of the night without a word of explanation. We stayed in a lovely hotel called the Arsena, where the fitness centre was advertised as free, which is why we chose it, and it wasn%26#39;t! We went through the correct channels of complaint, but to cut a long story short Balkan just don%26#39;t want to know about complaints.

If you can get to Nessebur with any other company, I would highly recommend giving it a try, we loved it, but I certainly wouldn%26#39;t go with Balkan again.

Hello Lola

I have just returned from Duni and had a wonderful holiday with my teenage children (6 in the party in total) We went to the Grand Marina Palace Hotel. The beach, scenery, wildlife, activitys were all amazing. Its a beautiful country and worth touring around the other areas. We visited Khans Tent in Sunny Beach and were pleased to have stayed in Duni. There is nothing wrong with Sunny Beach but it was more a place for teenagers (blackpool) than Duni.

Duni had a mix of nationalitys and didnt favour one over another, which was refreshing and fair. The hotel had Russians, French, Germans, Bulgarians and off course English and we all mixed well with each other.

The safari took us along the mountain that joins with Turkey and was a fantastic opportunity to see the wildlife. Another wonderful excursion ended in sampling the Bulgarian hospitality at a local village which had a stork and nest on every lamp post!

A beautiful country.

Let me know what decision you made in the end and whether you were happy with it

Best Wishes

Jenny

The cost is very much dependant on whether you want water colour, oil or pencil.You will see all their prices on display and I would take your photo with you just in case.

They are very good indeed and the guy with the big bushy beard always has a lot of trade.

Hopefully someone going this week can find out current prices for you and report back on their return.

Nessebar, Ravda and Sunny Beach are absolutely fantastic - you will not be disappointed. I don%26#39;t know your hotel, but we went for a family holiday and stayed in an apartment between Ravda and Nessebar. We have 2 kids, aged 16 %26amp; 12. Safe, easy to wlak about, good buses - the best for value is Ravda where a meal for all 4 of us 3 courses plus drinks etc, £15 - Nessebar more expensive and the market there has lots of snides ( Dolce %26amp; Gabbana etc) just don%26#39;t buy the perfume, trainers or holdalls but everything else ok and fantastic value. We gave our kids £50 each and ended up with an extra bag to come home with. The eldest loved shopping there in the old market. The waterpark between Ravda and Nessebar is a great day out and has everything you need such as food etc. Great first aid when youngest had a nose bleed but nurse attended to him whilst smoking a fag!!!!!

Downsides - the roads aren%26#39;t made up, agreed a fare with any taxi you use before you get in,any resturant near the sea in Nessebar is a rip off.Fresh milk - you can%26#39;t buy it.Avoid Sunny Beach, dirty and lots of Russian Mafia types.

Upsides - CHEAP!!!Ravda every night if you are eating. Buses about 20p each way and fairly frequent. Waterpark as before.Market in Nessebar old town. Ravda market.Loads of different Nationalities.

Do the ATMs in Golden Sands accept EC Cards debit cards??

Going there next week and was wondering if the ATM%26#39;s will take an EC card, which is a debit card, or do they just take credit cards?? Cheers..

|||

I believe the EC card comes under the Maestro /Mastercard group and if so you should have no problem.

I use a debit card when in Sunny Beach( Nationwide Visa ) without any trouble.

hi does anybody know any good all inclusive hotels for families? kids aged 9 and 4 also parents coming w

ith us so need lots to keep us all busy?

I personally wouldn%26#39;t go AI in Bulgaria as there is such a choice to eat out and it is a lot cheaper than at home.

However, the biggest range of AI belongs to Balkan Holidays so would suggest getting hold of brouchure.

Here are some hotels

3* Helios Park

3*+ Nympha

4* Atlas, Kristal,( Not to be confused with a very poor hotel in Sunny Beach ) %26amp; Elena

Veggie Options

We do not eat meat and I gather from this site that most of the best bulgarian dishes involve it. I would appreciate it if anyone could recommend decent restaurants that would serve nice veggie options.

|||

You will find most restaurants have meat free options, Shopska salad is lovely. Plenty of pasta dishes.

www.passionateaboutfood.net/bulgarian.php

Click here for info on Bulgarian cuisine

Toonman

|||

Many thanks Toonman, loved the website

|||

We are here just now, and both vegetarian. Food in the hotel is passable to us (Iberostar) - but outside we%26#39;ve only had pizza and chips - both good, but not seeing many other options. There are salads etc, but we%26#39;ve only looked for snacks. Pasta places don%26#39;t tend to have veggie options - there%26#39;s only really lasagne and bolognese etc where I%26#39;ve looked. Chinese places also look quite limited. You%26#39;ll be able to eat ok, but might also be horrified to see pigs on spits!!! eek!

|||

Go to a BUlgarian type food restaurant. There are many dishes without meat. There is a dish called BUREK that is a pepper, roasted, peeled, stuffed with cheese and fried, delicious. There are many more, you have to find a tipical Bulgarian restaurant, not one trying to please tourists.

|||

Many thanks lesley and soshi! I tend to stick to the authentic restuarants, but as I mentioned earlier from what I can find from books and websites most of the restaurants in sunny beach are geared for tourists and as I deliberately picked here for specific R%26amp;R (didn%26#39;t want to pick a place where I%26#39;d be tempted to go and see everything the country has to offer) i did not want to go off the beaten path! My daughter will be horrified if we see animals on spits -

|||

Try to go more away from the tourists areas. The locals eat too, try to find their places.

Looking for advice from travellers from Ireland please

Hi, I just wanted some advice on a couple of things from any Irish people who have been to Bulgaria before or who may just know anyways!!!

Firstly, if anybody has flown out of Belfast to Bourgas how was the flight, were you on time etc?

Secondly, Bank of Ireland are the only financial institution trading in Leva and I was quoted 1.85 leva for 1 euro today. Seems a bit low as 1 pound sterling in England seems to average at 2.38 leva. Maybe this is relative but the euro is very strong against sterling currently so I would have expected more for my euro, or maybe i am just mean!! Think I%26#39;ll just bring a small amount and use an ATM when I get there. Third question, which Irish ATM cards did you use while there?

Sorry for rambling and thank you for reading.

|||

Anybody???

|||

Hi, I am travelling out from Dublin mid june and have been told my flight times have now changed quite dramatically!! (for operational reasons)nearly 12 hour differences so now I%26#39;m a little worried that this may be an indication that perhaps flights do not run smoothly to bourgas?? Anyway, I%26#39;m of the same thought about the lev exchange although - 1.85 is an average rate as I%26#39;ve been watching it for a while - I get impression from the site that best rate is to be had there rather than here. I%26#39;m going to do some checking (I work for a bank) and will let you know Monday??

|||

The current Euro rate at Bulgarian banks in the resort is 1.96.

Toonman

|||

Travelswithjojo, many thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear your flight times have changed so drastically. Any info you could post would be most appreciated.

Toonman, many thanks for the info I%26#39;ll defenitely wait and change my money over there just bring a small amount for snacks etc. Toonman I just wanted to say that I have read so much really useful information that you have posted and I want to thank you so much, most of what I know about Bulgaria has come from you, so thanks again!!

Question for Toonman

You seem to be the most knowledgable on all things Sunny Beach so I have a couple of questions if thats ok.

Is there any day cruises that you would recommend for a relaxing day?

Is it worth going to Nessebar for a day trip and what is there in the town of Nessebar?

Opionions are appreciated.

|||

Firstly Nessebar, I find it to be a good day out.

You can get there by bus,( about 40p ) Noddy train ( 80p each way )or boat ( about £4 ).

Nessebar is a world heritage site ( old town ) and is untouched by time. Wooden houses above shops in olde world cobbled streets, plenty of churches and shops.Lots of antique shops selling Russian war items.

Strange thing you will see is photographs stuck on front doors or trees. These are pictures of people from the family who have passed away over the years.

Some lovely restaurants, fish being a speciality with it being a harbour town. Well worth a day out.

You can book cruises for the day. A good one used to be the %26quot; Lazy Day Cruise %26quot;. It was run by Steve from the %26quot; Happy Duck %26quot; which is on the promenade, however, He is now concentrating on running his Orange disco so not so sure for this year.

Perhaps someone just coming back could update info.

Toonman

|||

Brilliant. Thanks for that Toonman. A day to Nessebar sounds interesting and appreciate the info on the day cruise.

|||

Have managed to locate Lazy Steve%26#39;s web page re his cruises. It also has an e-mail address if you need info.

These apts are new build and I think only opened last year. They are are the main road not far from the Hotel Svezhest.

This is fairly central, not far from bus station and market area. Beach is on opposite side of the road approx 400 yds away.

Excellent restaurant in the market area ( Djanny%26#39;s ).

hi we just returned from a holiday in bulgaria on monday, we stayed at the Ashton Hall, There are no baths in the rooms, no cereal bowls, if it%26#39;s a 1 bed room then you will just have a hob no oven. There is no restaurant in the hotel and no poolside bar, they did tell us that it would be open this week that last week was off season but i am dubious!! be careful of the lifts the doors close even when you are in the way of it, also don%26#39;t break anything 5 leva (2.50 euros) for a broken cup. I was not impressed overall. It%26#39;s a travel cot your baby will be sleeping in not a proper cot, i wouldn%26#39;t recommend it

thanks for that can you tell us if there is a microwave in the rooms as our baby is only 8 mth and we still have to sterilise her bottles

|||

yes there is a microwave. If you are looking for a restaurant close to the hotel there is one at the back, just follow the path you see when you are at reception and you%26#39;ll find it the people there are great, Vladamir is one of the waiters and you could%26#39;t meet nicer. The reason i mention this place is because the hotel receptionist told us the nearest place for food was down the main strip a good 20 mins. walk which we had to do at 12 midnight after arriving! But then we found this place and they are very obliging.

Going at beginning of August - couple o questions..

Hello all,

As the topic says I%26#39;m probably going to SB at the beginning of August for 7 nights. I%26#39;ll try to keep my questions as specific as possible...soroy if I don%26#39;t :)

- Is SB a much bigger resort area than Golden Sands? And how do the beaches compare?

- are there any package operators anyone would recommend speficially for flying direct from Dublin?

- Any hotels in the 4 star category you%26#39;d specifically recommend?

Appreciate any help

|||

Sunny Beach is a lot bigger than Golden Sands with obviously more clubs and bars.

( SB is also flat whereas GS in built into a hillside) Both have excellent beaches and water sports.

As for hotels, in GS would definately recommend the Iberostar Obzor/Izgrev and the Hotel Sofia ( this one in right in the thick of the action but no noise issues )

In SB there are a number of very good hotels,

Iberostar Sunny Beach Resort Hotel( in the heart of town next to beach ), Grand Hotel Oasis. Globus, to name but three.

Click here for a comprehensive list with ratings and reviews.

holiday-truth.com/holiday_truths/…

Toonman

|||

Hello Toonman,

I%26#39;ve been expecting you :)

thanks for that - so in your opinion would the size difference in the resorts be a dealbreaker?

It%26#39;s the way I was thinking anyway to be honest but I%26#39;ve heard mixed views on the size difference. I%26#39;d prefer to be in the biggest / liveliest.

The hotels on my shortlist seem to be:

Marina Grand Beach

Meridian

Victoria Palace

Majestic

Any that really stand out or any that I should avoid for any reason?

Thanks

|||

Don%26#39;t get me wrong, Golden Sands isn%26#39;t small, its just not as big as SB. Me personally because I like a good variety of night life will always chose SB .

If I had to stay in one of the hotels mentioned it would be the Meridian.

See here for latest review

holiday-truth.com/holiday_truths/…

Victoria Palace is a funny one. You either love it or hate it, very impressive to look at but service appears rubbish. Had family stay there last year and they hated the place.

For me I love the Iberostar sunny Beach resort Hotel. Right on the beach, yet only a couple of minutes to resort centre. Standards,service and food all very good and it is voted as the No. 1 hotel in resort on this site if you look under hotel reviews.

Just fire away if you%26#39;ve any more questions.

Toonman

|||

Cool, thanks.

Actually I think I%26#39;ve found a good deal for the Iberostar and it looks like we might head there.

I%26#39;ll keep you posted.

Thanks again Toonman

|||

When are you going to Iberostar? We fly out on 1 August for 7 nights.

Security

Does anyone know what security is like in either the diamond hotel or sunny beach its self!!I have heard of pickpockets are always on the prowl and bag snatchers too...Any help would be gratful befor i go on hols in sept ....

|||

Hi, Have been going to SB for a number of years without incident. We always hire a safety deposit box and always only take sufficient cash out with us for the evening.

As in most holiday resorts wherever you go there are pickpockets about. Be wary on the local buses and if approached by very young attractive females on the street. One sweet talks you while the 2nd one rifles your pockets.

For females always best to have a bag you can tuck under your arm or lie across their chest.

The quietest sea resort?

Hi, we%26#39;re a young couple who are attracted to Bulgaria because of it%26#39;s beaches and good prices. BUT we really really hate touristy places and massively concrete built apartments.

So far everywhere seems package holiday orientated, but is there anywhere we can go that is slightly less well worn? Perhaps with history? But near to a beach? We liked the look of St. Konstantin because it looks very peaceful, but could really do with help from people who have been to Bulgaria! Thanks a lot.

|||

Have you looked at Balchik? This is a quiet harbour town with all basic ammenities and some history too. The area is not too touristy and there are no massive developments.There are lots of private villas for rent around the area.

|||

Thankyou so much for your reply but we%26#39;ve actually booked our holiday now... We%26#39;re going to Sinemorets all the way down on the south coast. It was recommended on another forum and looks really tranquil. But we%26#39;ll definitely keep your suggestion in mind, I think we%26#39;re going to love Bulgaria!

Hotel Juli...anyone been? I'm really struggling!!!

Hi, i%26#39;m booked up to go to Hotel Juli on 8/8/8 for two weeks.

Has anybody been there? I can%26#39;t find anything on the internet about it, i%26#39;ve been searching for ages..

..if anybody can tell me what it%26#39;s like it would be greatly appreciated..

Jamie

|||

Hi Dodge, Little bit of info here, ( Do you know it%26#39;s an 18-30 type hotel ? )

The Juli is located slap bang in the centre of Sunny Beach, you really couldn%26#39;t get any closer to the action. Chill by the great pool or take the short walk to the 8km of beautiful white sands, where there%26#39;s tons of watersports on offer. If that%26#39;s not your thing then there%26#39;s loads of laid back bars along the beachfront or simply grab a lounger and work on your tan! Before heading out to one of many bars and clubs in Sunny Beach you must try one of the tasty cocktails from the Juli%26#39;s own bar!

Comfortable, modern rooms sleep 2-3 all have private facilities, minibar, TV and free air conditioning. Safe in reception (payable locally).

Main nightlife - 25m, Nearest beach - 25m

Official rating: 3 Star

Toonman

|||

Cheers toonman,

I am aware it%26#39;s 18-30, i%26#39;m 22 myself and i%26#39;m looking forward to a lively couple of weeks (a total change from my working life)..

..it sounds good from the write up, has anybody on the forums stayed there before?

J

|||

Hey, I went to Hotel Juli last summer. Sunny Beach itself is amazing, had the best holiday ever! Loads of clubs and bars at night, everything really cheap including drinks, really hot and a good area. Hotel Juli is right in the middle which is good. Its a bit basic but has all the essentials, air conditioning, shower and even a balcony for most rooms. The pool was a bit small but it didn%26#39;t matter coz the hotel doesn%26#39;t have many people so we were by ourselves most days!The only thing I didn%26#39;t like was the breakfast there. It%26#39;s aimed more at germans and french etc; but its really cheap to have breakfast somewhere else anyway! Anyway, Sunny Beach was so good that were weven going back againt his year so I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much!:-)

|||

cheers B1ondiex, that%26#39;s helped put my mind at rest, basic is fine as long as it%26#39;s not mingin%26#39;...ha.

Cheers again, J

Thomas Cook : Riu

Don%26#39;t know if anyone can help us.

We booked with Thomas Cook last August to go to Sunny Beach in Bulgaria and stay at the Riu Evrika. We were informed c. 10 days before we left that Thomas Cook has %26#39;lost%26#39; their contract with Riu and we were moved. I won%26#39;t go on about all the issues surrounding this but suffice to say that we are in the middle of nowhere !

We have been told since that Thomas Cook and Riu parted company in January. For obvious reasons we need to substantiate this information but can%26#39;t find anything on the web about it.

Can you help? A web site or even if you know someone in the industry that you ask?

Cheers

|||

OMG....Sorry cant find any info but checked Thomas Cook site and cant find the Riu.

Where have they put you then? If you go into SB, why dont you check with the hotel, they may be able to tell you something.

GOOD LUCK

|||

So sorry about your holiday, we are going to this hotel 13th june with thomson. When i went and picked up my tickets yesturday i asked them about thomas cook. They said travel agents are always falling out over contracts, they have had row with sandles at mo and are not takeing anyone there. my lady at thomson said sometimes these disputes last a couple of weeks and some times they last months. I know this doesnt make it better for you but hope this helps. Do you know where they are sending you?.

|||

Sorry realise you are already out there.

|||

Hi folks,

Thanks for all your replies, we stayed at the Sol Nessebar Palace, which was in the middle of nowhere and cost 25 leva for a taxi into Sunny Beach, the hotel was very nice apart from the location and lukewarm food, we did have a great time, this was mainly due to a meeting up with 12 others who were in the same situaton with Thomas Cook, we are all gonna stay in touch, and as well complaining on an individual basis, we are putting in a joint complaint,next stop ABTA,oh and next year it%26#39;s Thomson for us! I%26#39;ll update this post when we hear more, Good luck to anyone travelling to Riu Hotels with Thomas Cook. Anyone need any info, please contact me directly, through this site.

|||

Welcome home

Hope your situation didnt spoil your holiday too much. We had a similar problem in Majorca a few years ago. Put your complaint in writing to Thomas Cook and ask for confirmation of when the contract with Riu ended. We didnt get much joy from ABTA and ended up winning in the small claims court. Good Luck.

pickpockets

Thanks for all of you that have given advice on pickpockets in bulgaria, its always good to be extra vigilant while your in a foreign country. Has anybody got any other advise on keeping safe while me and other half are out there.

Thanks sue.

|||

Hi Sue,

Always hire a safety deposit box in your hotel. Never go out with all your money, only take out enough for what you%26#39;re immediate needs are. ( If u see something nice you can always call back for it )

If on a bus keep your bag zipped up and across your chest. People most at risk are single males who get accosted by the girls, one chatting up whilst 2nd is feeling their pockets. A quick call on their mobile then tells thier accomplices who to go for.

Toonman

|||

Yes, avoid sunny Beach which seems to have changed massively this year, there are prostitutes everywhere in the main area with their pimps, and the bars seem to have changed too, with more strip clubs and go-go bars. Keep your other half within site if you do go, a lone male is considered fair game. Also watch out for the taxis there, my other half was charged the equivilant of nearly fifty quid to go a few hundred yards, when he complained he ended up getting grief from the local police.

kate

Kate, I always go 1st 2 weeks in Sept and weather is a little unpredictable. It can be very hot during the day but cools very quickly in the evening and usually you need a light jumper/jacket.

We have always come back nicely tanned.

You can also get some spectacular thunderstorms but we%26#39;ve been lucky that they have normally been during the evening, beautiful to watch with a pint/cocktail in your hand.

thanks for that toonman looking forward to the holiday now sounds good watching a thunder storm while sipping a cocktal ahhhhhhhhhh thats the life

it is very unpredictable we went the 1st 2 weeks in september last year and the weather was not that brilliant at all but previous years it has, when we arrived home we found sunny beach was having a heatwave the last 2 weeks in september, I am going well prepared this time and take a mixture of woollies and sun clothes

The best hotel/resort for two mid 20s single lads?

Hello me and my friend are looking at a possible holiday to Bulgaria next week,im told that Bulgaria is a good up and coming country,which is both affordable and fun. my freinds went last year and they stayed in Sunny beach area,they said it was good for familys and them,however they are a couple. i got told by my other friend that Golden sands i better for young singles as its not so family orientated.

So can anyody help,what hotels or resorts would you recommend for 2 lads in there mid 20s who are both single,who dont want to be surrounded by familys and kids9sorry to sound harsh)

thankyou

|||

For young single lads it has to be Sunny Beach. Bigger with more bars and clubs.

I think GS is more family orientated than SB by miles.

18-30 club go to the Hotel Diamond in SB if thats of any help.

Trust me you will have more fun in Sunny Beach.

Toonman

|||

Cheers,you wouldnt happen to know the nearest airport? I think ive found a good deal with seperate flights and hotels

|||

the nearest airport is Bourgas for sunny beach

www.seadreams.sm4.biz

|||

In complete agreement with the above post!

Sunny Beach is definitely the place to go for young people. Golden Sands is advertised as a %26quot;family friendly%26quot; resort. Unfortunately there are some kids (but not many!) and afew too many Germans for my liking while the football is on!!

Me and my friend (both females early 20s) went last year for a week and we are going again on Monday for 2 weeks!

In terms of hotel we stayed at the Chaika last year which is one of the less %26quot;lively%26quot; hotels but it is near the centre of the resort. We loved it there but we payed for half board and hardly ate in the hotel at all as eating out was so cheap - would recommend Mamacitas mexican restaurant.

This year we are staying at the Excelsior Apartments on a self catering basis but again it is near where we stayed last year.

The lively young crowd (groups of screaming 18 year old girls) stayed at the Yavor apartments or the Kuban (you can%26#39;t miss the Kuban hotel it is right in the centre of the resort with a big K on it!). But both are a little further from the beach.

Anyways hope this is of some help! We are going on MOnday and really can not wait.

Be sure to go to The Corner (there are two bars side by side both called the corner the one on the left is better!!) and taste their Mojitos!!

P.S Beach Bulgaria website might help you out

Majestic Hotel Information

Hi I have booked a holiday staying at the Majestic this Summer.

I would like any information, tips or your thoughts on this hotel if you have stopped there recently.

I believe there are two sittings for the evening meal which sitting is recomended (we have no children travelling with us). We have also been told that staying at the Majestic entitles you to half price sunbeds on the beach. if this is correct how does this work and how much are the sunbeds. Last year we paid 18 levs for two sunbeds and an umbrella.

Any information would be appreciated.

|||

Here is the Majestic web page.

http://hotel.majestic-bg.com/

bulgaria-hotels.com/en/hotel_info/295h-majes…

Hope this is of some help.

Toonman

|||

Thanks Toonman for that lead. I would still like to hear from anyone who has actually stayed at the Majestic. I believe it is in the North part of Sunny Beach, how far is it from the centre and is it walkable from the Majestic to the centre of Sunny Beach.

|||

The Majestic to the centre of the resort is about 15 mins walk along the promenade.

Click here for a 3D map of Sunny Beach, Majestic is next to Victoria Palace on map, scroll to the right. The hotel Kuban is centre of resort and is also where market area is located.

http://www.sunnybeachmap.com/

Toonman

|||

The Majestic is in the northern part..next to the Victoria Palace. Plenty going on in the area and still only a 10 minute walk right into the centre.

|||

Sorry Toonman

Posted at the same time as you. I must walk a bit faster.

|||

Hi Welshlady, Most people walk faster than me. Wife says I%26#39;m a dawdler, never in a hurry to go anywhere.

Help! Single mum going on holiday July 2008

Can anyone advise on a hotel that is clean, good pool and near the beach (oops and sorry with entertainment!). Going on holiday with the kids on my own for the first time, daughter is 16 and son is 6 and aim to go on a bed and breakfast holiday as do not mind eating out, but love the excuse of %26#39;we need to hurry, so and so is on at the hotel tonight%26#39; knowing everyone is safe in one place.

Many thanks for everyones help

Denise :D

|||

Hi Denise,

Not sure what your budget is but try Iberostar in the middle/South part of the resort or for better options but a bit pricey possibly the hotels in the NORTH part of the resort which is the quieter, better, classier 4/5 star hotels/private accomodation end.

Try the Helena Park / Hotel Majestic / Victoria Palace as they are very big (Las Vegas size hotels beleive me!) and offer b%26amp;b and entertainment at good rates for what they give you. These higher end hotels may cost but they will give you peace of mind as this is your 1st holiday on your own. Next year (and I know you will rebook) you can fine tune your accomodation needs by looking at what is avaliable whilst you are there.

So for peace of mind you may have to pay alittle unless someone else knows of the ideal hotel for your needs. Hope this helps and you have a great holiday.

I%26#39;m going out their in May and July!

If you need anyother help consider a private message.

Enjoy!

The Iberostar Sunny Beach Resort Hotel is superb and has childrens clubs and entertainment every night but is one of the best hotels in the resort. Food is excellent too so you wouldn%26#39;t be going out to eat so much.

Many of bars have entertainment on at night , singers/duos or groups so there is still plenty of choices.

Consider the Grand Hotel Oasis for a B%26amp;B option, very central for beach,bars and shopping. ( I have just had to cancel my booking there due to wife being taken into hospital ). Don%26#39;t forget part of a decent holiday is wandering into other hotels to see whats on at night and no one minds you going to watch, after all you are buying drinks once in there.

Toonman

|||

Agre with toonman Hotel Oasis very nice hotel,stayed there for last 4 years ,very accessable to everything.,no entertainment there but hotel is great very clean and one of the largest pools in suny beach and it doesnt get too overcrowded

|||

Can anyone tell me if Grand hotel oasis is anywhere near The Fat Cat?

|||

Please does anyone know if the Grande oasis is close to The Fat Cat? and how far is it from the Beach?

thanks for any replies.

d. craig2. Just wanted to let you know the Fat Cat is changing its format somewhat this season Lots of entertainment, for ALL ages EVERY night. Karaoke, bingo, deal or no deal, open the box competitons a good mix for all the family with lots of prizes!

|||

The Fat Cat is about a 20 minute walk from the Oasis.

Nearest hotel is the Pomerie.

Toonman

|||

Thanks toonman, I think thats a bit far to walk when Ive had a few too many lol lol Ive read Bad reviews about the Pomeira? have you stayed there? Can you reccomend a 4/5 star B%26amp;B or self catering near to the Fat Cat and the Beach?

Thanks very much for your help!

|||

Have a look at this map, 3D map of Sunny Beach.

sunnybeachmap.com/sunny_map_eng/3d_map_eng.p…

Pomerie is towards left near beach, just point at a building and it shows what hotel.

My recollection of decent hotels on that part are the Meridian and Fenix Beach, both within a couple of minutes walk to the Fat Cat.

Grab hold of a Balkan Holiday brochure as they do the widest selection in Sunny Beach including self catering.

It is also worth looking at www.holidaytruths.co.uk and go to the Bulgaria forum, loads of tips on hotels/apartments and quite a few members have apartments to let.

Toonman

|||

Thanks Toonman,

That map is Great Ive been able to pick a few hotels to take a look at.

thanks again,

Glyn

|||

Glyn, Glad to have been of help.

The Hotel KUBAN is condidered to be the very centre of the resort and is where the main street is and also the market area.

Toonman

on the beach

hi toonman or others who have been to riu helios at sunny beach do you pay for sunbeds on the beach we are all inclusive and is that the hotels private beach.thankyou

|||

Here are some reports from this year.

thomson.co.uk/holiday-reviews/…

I believe you do pay for sunbeds on the beach side but not poolside. If my memory serves me right part of beach is roped off but thats all.

Toonman

|||

cheers toonman all your reviews are very helpful

F.A.O Toonman

Hi toonman I know your a regular visitor to sunny beach and your info on here has been great but please tell me Hotel Diamond is not all youngsters getting drunk I read on another post that it was 18-30`s and we are not old fuddy duds by any means but really don`t like the thought of being kept awake all night by teenagers

|||

While you wait for Toonman to log on... Diamond was not 18-30s last year but I have seen reports that it is this year. The diamond is ideally located on the main road right in the centre and near to the market area. A 24hour BALLI supermarket nextdoor.

|||

The Diamond has never been exclusive to 18-30%26#39;s but this year they are advertising it on their website so I suppose it will be mixed clientele this year.

Most of the action is further up town and therefore shouldn%26#39;t be too bad. We have stayed in the Oasis a couple of times ( just down and opposite ) and the security guards would frighten most people off from causing trouble.

There are people on this site going to the Diamond later this month so hopefully they an give some up to date info.

Toonman

|||

Oh Thanks to both of you Toonman and WelshLadyNorthWales, for your replies you have put my mind at rest , I don`t mind at all teenagers, but would not like to be in a hotel full of them lol, we go tommorrow so I will def post back and let everyone know , 1 more sleep wooooooooh

Sunny Beach 13th June

going 4 the 1st time, does anyone know what the weather will be like? Any bars and restaurants people rate or recommend? What is the nite life like? Thanxs

|||

You should find the weather very good, mid to high 20%26#39;s if not warmer.

Plenty of bars or restaurants. ( Best is Djanny%26#39;s situated in the market area across the main road from the Hotel Kuban, also Condor in the same area.

Loads of clubs, Iceberg, Lazurs ,XL, Orange plus others.

Your%26#39;e best bet is to ask about the clubs and how people rate them probably the week before you go. That way you will have this years in places as opposed to last years.

Toonman

|||

Im goin on this date as well! Starting to really look forward to it now!

Iv been told its very cheap too, so thats even better :)

|||

Im goin on the 13th june aswell really looking ofrward to it, sounds like it has a good nite laugh and is really cheap for drinks and food which is a bonus

|||

Yeah, cant wait! My cousins were there last year and loved it....

Where r u staying? myself %26amp; my Boyfriend r stayin in the Marvel Hotel

|||

me and my boyfriend are stayin in the majestic hotel, ive heard its on the quieter end of sunny beach but apparently it isnt that much of a walk into the centre so should be ok

|||

Hi my wife and I are going on the 20th June, staying in the Marvel hotel. Seems like half of Ireland will be in sunny beach. I%26#39;ve been reading the forums to know what to look out for and it seems that %26quot;toonman%26quot; is the expert, so take notice of what he has to say, and thanks to him also.

|||

we are goinhg on the 23rd june for 2 weeks...it will be our 25th visit to Sunny beach... we first went there in 1986 and have been returning every year since sometimes twice.....It is not as good as it was but still the top resort in Europe in my view...

|||

Hi I am staying in the Hotel Majestic for a week on the 13th June. Does anyone know if i would be able to upgrade my room to an apartment and if so how much is it likely to cost??? Thanks

|||

ye will have a great time. cheap and good fun.

make sure your suitcase is well secured coming in and out of Bourgas. Put tape around it if need be. Mine was broken into after checking in on my way back last year. so be wanred.

|||

|||

Hotel marvel

hi there im off to hotel marvel in a week and was just interested to hear any comments about it from people who have been, especially regarding, rooms, food and ammenities such as how much sun beds are a day. thankyou very much ian.

|||

Hi, Im goin to the Marvel Hotel 2moro for two weeks. I have read all the reviews on this website about it %26amp; emailed a few people who wrote the reviews as well. All the feedback was positive!

My cousin stayed in this hotel last year %26amp; said it%26#39;s lovely %26amp; spotless clean too. She said it was mostly couples staying there %26amp; very few children around.I dont know how much the fee is for a sunbed, but i doubt it will be much since the resort is generally very cheap.

The only bad thing I heard about this hotel is the food can be cold or luke warm-which is why i only went b%26amp;b instead of half board.

Hope you enjoy your holiday.

Im off to pack now :)
