What should we expect ???????????????

We are a group of 8, who are staying in sunny beach at the majestic four parents the eldest 2 (18 yr old lads in their own room) and then a 15yr old lad with his parents and a 13yr old girl with her parents, we are thinking should we have booked this now after reading some of the reviews we don%26#39;t know what to expect ans we know a holiday is what you make of it, but should we have kept with a Spanish resort ?

What are the prices like at the moment say for a larger, cigs, soft drinks, meals and of course the exchange rate please could someone make us feel

we HAVE booked the right place to go, one review makes it sound like the Bronx to be honest !!!!!!!!

Been going to SB for 10 years, twice a year and back again for 3 weeks on 20th.

As the above post has answered a lot of your questions...I%26#39;ll just add what you will be told by your rep when you arrive and you can read about on this forum...WATCH where you change your money. Use banks or CROWN exchange bureax. Dont be tempted by what appears to be a higher rate in the small booths around the resort. Never change money if approached on the street. You will end up with worthless bits of paper.

As far as cigs are concerned, dont buy on street corners, fakes again. We always smoke the local VICTORY cigs when we are there. They have many different strengths..The darker the packet, the stronger they are. We find the white and gold lights are similar to L%26amp;B and cost about £1 a packet.

Relax and enjoy.

Today%26#39;s exchange rate in the resort banks is 2.47 lev to the £. As Welshlady says only exchange at a bank or exchange booth with a big blue CROWN on top.

Do not take traveller cheques as commission is up to 10% whereas sterling notes ( clean, unmarked or torn ) are commission free.

Here are some reports of Majestic

holiday-truth.com/holiday_truths/…

I used to go to Spain for over 20 years and wouldn%26#39;t thank you for the place now. ( My son-in-law got mugged there )

Some of the reports I have read on this site would fill me with horror , however, in all the years I have been going to Bulgaria I have not witnessed any of the things said.

I couldn%26#39;t believe the comment %26quot; everyone knows that you don%26#39;t get into a taxi alone as they will rape you%26quot;

I don%26#39;t know where it came from but I would take offence of it if I was Bulgarian. The taxi drivers we normally use are attached to the hotels and we%26#39;ve had some wonderful service from them.

Go with an open mind, look after yourselves, as you would anywhere else and you shouldn%26#39;t have any problems. As with a lot of tourist places there are pickpockets about just make sure you keep handbags zipped up and close to hand, either under your arm or across your chest and don%26#39;t flash loads of money about.

As Toonman has said use either banks or the Crown exchanges to obtain your money. The exchange rates as displayed on the boards outside other exchange booths look very good but these rates are misleading. The rate that is advertised is the rate that you pay them in levs to buy pound sterling from them and the rate they give you for exchanging your pounds for their levs is a lot lower.

Wellsduky,

We have a 2 bed apartment behind the Majestic Hotel (called Sunny Beach Hills), and when you get their you will find you have picked a brilliant part of Sunny Beach. This part of the beach has the better 5 star hotels all congregated together. When you start to walk along the beach to the centre of the resort the hotels and bars start to go to a more %26#39;18-30%26#39; suited area. Now don%26#39;t get me wrong sometime i want a wild noght and alaugh drinking my self silly(!) But where you are you have the choice of how far towards the centre you want to walk - the furthur you go the more 4 /3/2 star hotels you get.

You will love Sunny Beach, just treat it like anyother place, you can get mugged in Spain, Italy, London and even Manchester(!)...doesn%26#39;t mean you will be moving home!!

Go with an open mind and best thing is learn a few words of Bulgarian and initially if feeling a bit apprehensive then stick to the UK filled bars/restaurents...but do try to venture out to the smaller local/Bulgarian bars too.

Enjoy.

Thank you to every one for puttting our minds at ease we thought we had made a big mistake when reading some of the previous reviews, we are now looking forward to visiting Bulgaria for the first time i we hope we can put other peoples mind at ease once we come back after our summer hols.

By the way we are out there from 18th july for 2 weeks so I expect it will be realy busy.

Just one last thing has anyone stayed at the Majestic Hotel at Sunny Beach as apart from one horrible review from this year the rest are over a year or so old and we just wondered what it was like now.

So if anyone has already had their holiday and stayed there this year could you let us know your opinion on the place. CHEERS

Hi, i have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Majestic and you most definately HAVE booked the right place to go! We had a fantastic time and are even thinking of going again next year. I did not experience any of the things some people have posted such as prostitutes and pickpockets. Yes there are beggars in Bulgaria but they are few and far between and you can just ignore them. We were a party of five and not one of us was ill the whole time we were there. I didn%26#39;t find it as cheap as what was made out though as the majestic does tend to be a little pricey 4.50 levs for a beer and about 9levs for a cocktail which is about 2pounds and 4 pounds respectively. This isn%26#39;t expensive as such but is a big difference to when you are reading that you can get beer for 70pence!! Majestic defintaley has the best location also as its slightly out of the main stretch of Sunny Beach that is a little bit on the tacky side but you dont have to go down there all the time, we went now and then for a laugh but other than that stayed mostly down the end nearest the hotel.
