cigarettes

Hi, I noticed that cigarettes (dirty habit I know) appeared to be cheap in Bulgaria a while ago, now they are in the EU have they shot up in price ?? or are they still cheap compared to the UK, does anyone know if they sell UK brands or are they Bulgarian/American ones? thanks in advance

They do sell UK brands but NEVER buy them from street sellers as they are fakes.

Stick to airport or a good supermarket like the one on artist street.

Cost is approx 30 lev for 200 ( £12.50 ) or you can buy Victory for 26 lev ( Bulgarian but made for the European market ), similar to Superkings, or so I%26#39;m told. They come in various strengths, darker blue the packet the stronger they are.

Also remember, the legal limit for bringing cigarettes out of Bulgaria is still only 200 per person despite them being in the EU.

Im just back from Sunny Beach %26amp; i bought cigarettes in the shops in the streets- 200 Benson 35 lev or 200 Silk Cut 32 lev. I did see them for up to 39 lev in some shops though,so shop around before you buy.

I dont smoke but my family were more than happy with the cigarettes %26amp; didnt complain that they were fake.

I noticed The cigarettes were the same price in the airport as they were in the shops in the streets but the price is displayed in euro in the airport ( you can pay with lev or euro there though -dont worry!)

Ok so now Im confused, they are in the EU but you can only bring back (legally) 200 cigarettes so can you buy cigarettes at the airport/on the plane going out from the UK ? or because you are flying within the EU thats a no! thought that countries within the EU was no fags at airport or on the plane but limits to bring back into the UK were higher - confused or what !

hi just to clarify you cant buy cigs at airport going out or on plane you are only allowed 200 per person coming back bit of a dispute they say they are not officially in eu yet but saying that a lot of people took the chance and brought back more than allowed i am just as confused duty free at bourgas tell you you can have 3200 then customs here say 200 so can somebody find out the truth how many can you bring back 3200 or 200 cheers

I can tell you with complete authority that the official limit for bringing cigarettes out of Bulgaria is 200. A shop assistant isn%26#39;t going to stop you buying any amount you wish as once you have left you are no longer their concern.

Just so you know for sure here is the section from HM Customs website.

Tobacco restrictions for eight Member States

The UK is maintaining limits on the amount of cigarettes and some tobacco products that travellers are able to bring in to the UK for own use from eight Member States, without paying UK duty.

The limits are:

Estonia - 200 cigarettes or 250g of smoking tobacco.

Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia - 200 cigarettes.

Anyone who is carrying more than the limits should pay UK duty on those goods by entering the Customs red channel or by using the red point telephone. If travellers enter the Customs blue channel with more than the limits, then all of their tobacco may be seized.

  1. Are you paying over $5 / pack of cigs? I buy all my cigarettes at Duty Free Depot and this saves me over 70% on cigs.
