I found most of the Bulgarian people to be very friendly. Obviously you will get one or 2 who might be a bit rude but generally there a nice people.

I stayed at the marvel Hotel %26amp; the area around it has plenty of bars %26amp; restaurants but can be a bit quiet.

However, the %26#39;noddy train%26#39; stops right outside the hotel every 15 mins (3 lev per person) %26amp; brings you right into the centre of things so dont worry! :)

how was the marvel hotel

|||

I really liked it, it was very clean %26amp; modern. the entertainment was low key there but we went out every night.

Im going to post a review on the hotel with some fotos so u can have a look.

Hi joeymac, as you already know from a previous post my daughter and I stayed here for two weeks. The hotel itself would be considered a 4* by continental european standards - however by UK and Ireland standards would be considered a 3* plus. Very large spacious rooms, large bar area and pools are a good size with lots of sunbeds. Cleaners evident everywhere, room cleaned and fresh towels everyday. Porters available at all times. We got a safety deposit box in reception area for the two weeks (70 lev / €42) and could go to use it anytime day or night with no problem. Our travel rep (budget - Christina is bulgarian and was absolutely one of the best travel reps I%26#39;ve ever had the pleasure to meet. Our return flight time had been changed from 3:15p, to 01:45 next morning. For 50 lev (€27) we kept the room %26#39;til 6pm - for 100 lev we could have kept it til midnight. Some reception staff very pleasant, some quite indifferent (as with all people everywhere!) Despite the good points listed above, quite honestly, if you do have a chance to change hotel I would recommend you do so. Everyone and I%26#39;m not exagerating here - everyone on our bus (full) all said they would never stay at that particular hotel again. Air conditioning did not work in half of the hotel rooms (I took a photo of the temperature gage in the room at 8:15 am and it was 30c - that%26#39;s hotter than outside! They did promise this would be fixed by yesterday (two weeks later) but was not evident when we were leaving.) We were in a room that faced front of hotel (not poolside) and each and every night they took out fire hoses and pumped the sewers onto the street - the smell was awful in the evenings - daytime was fine - I really felt sorry for the restaurant adjacent to the hotel - people would sit down to eat and get up and leave because the smell was overwhelming - not something that goes well with food. Gorgeous mentioned that she only saw computer room flooded one day - unfortunately this is not entirely correct - drains seems to overflow constantly. Hotel itself is located in the quieter area northern stretch of sunny beach - but this is a good thing - only 5-10 mins walk to center of all things. You will not hate staying here and if you are into just sunbathing during the day and going out drinking every night then you will certainly not be disappointed. We only booked bed %26amp; breakfast based on previous reviews we saw about the food in the hotels - and am glad to have paid attention to the reviews - most people skipped their dinner and went out. Eating out is very reasonable and there are some very lovely restaurants with good quality food and service for half the price of UK/Irish standards. Bulgarian people appear very friendly as long as you do not challenge them on prices agreed - then they can turn quite nasty. We met some lovely Bulgarian people and in fact have email adresses to keep in touch with a few of them. Whatever you do - do not use the rickshaws (?) these are the guys bicycling pulling a seat behind them (I think this is what they are called) we got one about midnight one evening and he told us is was 15 lev (about a 5 minute journey to our hotel) got out and he said 50 lev - we were shocked and said he told us 15 lev - he got really agressive and insisted 50 lev - rather than argue and thinking perhaps we heard him wrong handed him over 50 lev (at this stage the area of the hotel was dark and quiet and I did not want any trouble) he then said no it was 50 lev EACH. I said no I didnt have the money - he grabbed my hand from which I just took the 50 and said you do have the money there it is in your hand - starting shouting - turned very nasty - I had to shout at my 13 year old daughter to run into the Victoria Palace hotel which we were beside and get their security to help us. I pulled away and he said his boss wanted to talk to me on his phone (ugh - very surreal situation) it was very upsetting and frightening because they all know each other on the strip I felt very vulnerable the following day walking along it. I am not a person who scares easily and will stand my ground in most situations - I have travelled a lot and yes have been mugged in the past - but this was a very different situation - my daughter actually said to me the next day that he did that because we were two females on our own in a quiet part of the beach and he thought we could not /would not fight back. Being honest - if I didnt have my daughter with me - I would not have even given him the first 50 lev and took my chances - but I would not risk the safety of my daughter - needless to say once she went to get security and I started to push back - he knew he wasnt goint to get anywhere and with some angry bulgarian insults he took off before security reached him. So DON%26#39;T USE THEM - other than that particular incident - we did feel very safe - but this ruined the last couple days - and if it had happened earlier in the holiday - I don%26#39;t know how we would have felt. Everyone experiences different things on a holiday and you should never go on just one persons opinion and I hope you really enjoy it - just be careful - it is different there - it%26#39;s still living in its communist past - it does have a long way to go before it comes up to european standards - but it is something to experience - but I would never ever go back. There are some good excursions -we went to Istanbul for two days, did the jeep tour, khans tent, Varna, Nessenbar, and were all excellent. We also did the Bulgarian evening - this was torture - we should have realised when there were no english speaking people on this tour - so avoid it.

how long will they b pumping the drains for ,is it just a tempory thing or is it part aqnd parcel of the hotel,also how was it getting thru airport arrivivg thanx

|||

Hi, I just saw the pumping at our hotel - not at others but to be honest really didn%26#39;t check it out at other hotels. I would like to think this is not the norm and perhaps they were having problems with the drains as it was the beginning of the season. Also, I think it was much more noticible to us as our room was located at the front of the hotel and this is where they seemed to have problems - you will notice it more if you take the noddy train at night as it drives right through it - lift your legs really high :) to avoid getting splashed.

Airport - very small - you are transported by bus from your aircraft to a building where you line up to get in to go through passport control. Passport control very much like when you go to states - takes a while but nothing unusual. If you are lucky, there won%26#39;t be too many planes arriving at the same time!
