e111

Does your e111 card cover you in bulgaria?

I am trvelling with my son who has a medical condition and I was wandering along with our insurance if we would be covered for medical intervention if we need it?

Not sure about an e111 card but my friend had to go to hosptial over there as she spilt boiling water all over her foot before she went over so she needed to go and change her bandages while over there. All she had done was had her bandages changed twice and they were charging her €500.00 which was rediculous. We also tried to pay through insurance but they wanted cash also they didnt have a credit card machine but had to convince them that we could only do it through insurance. Also the hospital was very run down, they used very rusty equipment to clean her burn. i would try and go to a doctor if i were you. it caused alot of hassell. they werent very nice or helpful. They would nt leave us leave the hospital unless we paid by cash and while we were trying to let them know that we are only going through the insurance. they went up to our hotel room and went through our stuff looking for money with out our permission. only that my friend was in the room asleep and woke up to them in the room looking for money god know s what they would have taking.

Hope this is any help, they told us they didnt take cards.

E111 cards are out of date now. You need to apply for an EHIC one which does cover Bulgaria, but only basic health treatments. You can get one online.

Hope this helps.
